Chronological Timeline of the Five Clans of O'Lorcain

In the dark antiquity of Celtic Ireland, the O'Lorcain of Leinster of that province was the Royal family of Leinster and were originaly seated at Kicullan and Castledermot in Kildare, and Lady's Island, Cavnsorep, Wexford.

The progenetor of the Clan was Lorcan, son of Felim, King of Leinster [923 to 941], who died at Dublin.

Lorcain's sons were the "Kings" of Leinster and "Lords" of Ui Muedad; Ui Dunchaclha and Ui Cennselaig.

1021 ad - Ua Lorcain Ruadhri, Lord of Ui Niallain, [slain at Craebh Caille, Armagh 1037]

1024 ad to 1030 ad - Tadhg O'Lorcain Mael Mordha, Ui (King) Ceinnsellaigh, slain at Glenda Lough, Wexford.

1036 ad - Ruaidri O'Lorcain tainist [heir to the throne] of Leinster.

1037 ad - Ruadhri O'Lorcain, Lord of Ui Niallan, Amagh died.

1112 ad - Augaire O'Lorcain of Castledermot was Lord of Ui Mureadach and Ui Dunchadha, when he died on his pilgramage to Glenda Lough.

After being dispossed by the Normans, they relocated into Kilkenny, where the town and Parish Ballylarkin near Freshford was named for them.

During their 150 year occupation of Kildare, they built a 13th century Abbey in upper Ballylarkin. The design was of a small military church, with a single side door and decorative windows. The Abbey was located across the field from Castle Ballylarkin.

1026 ad - The Sept O'Lorcain were ousted from Castle Ballylarkin by the family Shortall [English]. By 1326 ad Robert Fitzjohn Shortall of Claragh owned Castle Ballylarkin, which was renamed Dwogh in 1635.

1420 ad - The O'Lorcain's were "Chiefs" of Forharta Cairn [Carnsere Point; the very southern point of Wexford]. Larkinstown near Wexford, Ballylarkin in North Wexford and Larkin's Cross at Barntow; all take their names from the O'Lorcain family.
